September is a busy month for professional service firms, as they dive headfirst into the heavy fall workload. From federal politics to new facilities, new associates, new websites and everything in between, here is a brief recap of some notable activities that our clients have been involved with over the past month:
Well-known Victoria public law Lawyer Murray Rankin Q.C., recently announced plans to run as the NDP candidate in a bid to replace current Victoria NDP MP Denise Savoie. A date has not yet been set for the NDP nomination contest, but we wish Murray luck in the future race. You can view his campaign site at murryrankinndp.ca.
The UVic Faculty of Law announced that the UVic Law Centre will be moving to a new location at the Victoria courthouse. This is a very exciting development for the program as it will provide even more opportunity for students to gain practical legal experience while also providing a valuable resource to those in need. The Law Centre will be sharing space with the newly created Victoria Justice Access Centre: an organization that aims to acts as an informational hub for individuals with family and civil law issues.
Skunkworks congratulates the Alberta-based multi-practice law firm Brownlee LLP on launching their new website. The website represents a massive overhaul to the firm’s previous site, and features an entirely new design, refreshed content, and a new layout that emphasizes navigability.
The multi-practice Vancouver law firm Watson Goepel LLP refurbished their website, adding a refreshing stroke of colour and dynamism to a well-established Vancouver legal brand. In addition to the updated design, users will also notice improved functionality and better content organization. In September, Watson Goepel LLP also had the privilege of seeing their client HapiFoods – a Sechelt-based health food company best-known for their “Holy Crap” cereal brand – win the distinction of being named a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award.
The multi-practice Coquitlam based law firm Drysdale Bacon McStravick made a strong move forward into social-media marketing this month by launching both a LinkedIn Company Page and a Facebook Page for their law firm.
The Vancouver-based family law firm Megan Ellis & Company recently announced that Rachael Manion will be joining their practice in early October. Rachael previously worked with the Department of Justice advising Health Canada and the Assisted Human Reproduction Agency on the application and development of regulatory legislation and policy.
Clearly our clients have been keeping themselves busy throughout the month of September. We look forward to seeing what’s in store for the remainder of the fall.
