The first month of 2013 has flown by and we are happy to report that our clients have already accomplished a great deal. From new websites to new associates and everything in between, here is a brief recap of some of the notable activities that our clients have accomplished to kick off the New Year:
J. Scott Stanley, a lawyer at the Vancouver-based personal injury firm Murphy Battista, was featured on the CBC news and information show “Marketplace”. The episode titled “Tripped Up”, focused on travel insurance and the associated perils of incorrectly filling out insurance application forms. Scott was asked to share his years of experience practicing insurance law to educate unsuspecting consumers.
Murphy Battista LLP was also shortlisted for the Top Ten Personal Injury Firms Survey created each year by Canadian Lawyer Magazine. The Survey invites participants to rank their top five personal injury firms and comment on the qualities that make these firms unique. You can take part in the online survey until February 8, 2013.
With some help from Skunkworks, Burnaby-based Certified General Accountant Dylan Rickard launched a brand new website (dylanrickardcga.ca) last month. The website incorporates new branding and a modern design with sticky navigation that highlights Dylan’s unique background (In addition to working as a CGA, Dylan also has worked as a lawyer). We are very happy with Dylan’s new site and hope that it serves him well over the next few years.
Vancouver-based multi-practice law firm Watson Goepel LLP took a bold step forward into video marketing last month. In collaboration with Backlot Media, Skunkworks created three videos for the firm. This initial set of videos highlights the firm’s Family Law Group and the language diversity the firm offers to individual and business clients in BC’s Mandarin and Cantonese speaking Asian community. The videos are still in the production stage, but will soon be featured on the firm’s website.
Jonathan Lazar, a member of the Family Law Group at Watson Goepel, was also recently invited to discuss family law issues on CKNW (980 AM). While experienced in traditional litigation strategies, Jon’s practice emphasizes the use of out-of-court settlement procedures. The firm’s Family Law Group has also been active in spreading the word about the impending changes to BC’s Family Relations Act set to come into force on March 18, 2013.
Skunkworks assisted the Lawyer’s Assistance Program BC in the creation of three web videos last month. The videos are designed to introduce LAP services and demonstrate, via personal stories from two successful participants, that the LAP works. These videos will soon be featured on the new LAP BC website.
Courthouse Libraries BC recently launched a new Criminal Law practice portal tailored to the needs of criminal lawyers. The practice portal includes easy access to the rangefinder sentencing research tool, daily court hearings, and other resources.
Canada West Veterinary Specialists was proud to provide emergency service to Teak — a Vancouver police dog that was stabbed this month while tracking an armed robber on 52nd Avenue and Main Street. Canada West Vets performed surgery on Teak’s neck and successfully treated his multiple lacerations. Teak was released from the hospital this month, but will not be returning to active duty. Teak’s recovery was documented on Canada West’s Facebook Page.
Finally, Coquitlam-based multi-practice law firm Drysdale Bacon McStravick LLP recently welcomed Stanley Leo to their team. Joining the firm as an Associate, Stanley has developed a general solicitor’s practice with an emphasis on residential real estate.
That about does it for the first month of 2013. We look forward to seeing what else our clients get up to as the year progresses.
